What's a Metadata Application Profile?
  • Is a statement of metadata elements selected from one or more metadata schemas (including locally defined sets) adapted, extended or combined into a compound schema.
  • The purpose is to meet the functional requirements of a particular application.
  • Includes metadata elements, controlled vocabularies, as well as the rules for data entry, policies, guidelines and procedures appropriate to the collection.

Developing a Metadata Application Profile

Why?
  • If existing metadata schemas don’t meet our specific requirements for a collection

Variants
  • Might use an existing schema’s elements, but customise the controlledvocabularies, or the rules for data entry
  • Might use an existing schema but add additional customised elements
  • Might combine elements from two or more schemas together to form a new set of elements
How?
  • Existing metadata schemas have guidelines for extending the schema with additional elements, and general principles for developing metadata schemas
  • Ensure mapping of new metadata application profile to other schemas

Een goed voorbeeld van een MAP is CanCore. Dit schema is gebaseerd op IEEE's LOM. Meer informatie is te vinden op http://www.cancore.ca/en/docs.html.
