De Engelse tegenhanger van Surf, JISC, heeft een interessante studie laten uitvoeren naar Student Expectations Study uit juli 2007. Door de hele studie heen staan er allerlei interessante quotes, zoals deze:

“It is thoroughly unfair that the university chooses to ban a website which I want to see, considering I am paying for the service”

Drie kwart van de ondervraagden verwacht onbeperkte toegang tot internet. Daar ben ik het ook mee eens. Ik weet dat er bij veel instellingen discussie is over het blokkeren van bepaalde sites, zoals Hyves, Facebook e.d. 

Een interessante conclusie is:

Students do not fully understand how ICT and learning can work together. They imagine and like the idea of the traditional, Socratic, or “chalk and talk” methods with face to face learning
