Op 4 juni vindt in Rotterdam een TEDx-event. TED is gestart als een conferentie over Technology, Entertainment en Design. Inmiddels zijn de bijeenkomsten breder en gaat het om het verspreiden van goede ideeën:

TED is a non­profit orga­ni­za­tion devoted to Ideas Worth Spread­ing. Started as a four-day con­fer­ence in Cal­i­for­nia 25 years ago, TED has grown to sup­port those world-changing ideas with mul­ti­ple ini­tia­tives. The annual TED Con­fer­ence invites the world’s lead­ing thinkers and doers to speak for 18 min­utes. Their talks are then made avail­able, free, at TED.com.

TEDx-evenementen zijn gebaseerd op het TED-formaat, maar wel onafhankelijk van de TED-organisatie:

TEDx was created in the spirit of TED's mission, "ideas worth spreading." The program is designed to give communities, organizations and individuals the opportunity to stimulate dialogue through TED-like experiences at the local level.

At TEDx events, unique talks given by live speakers combine with TEDTalks videos to spark deep conversation and connections. TEDx events are fully planned and coordinated independently, on a community-by-community basis.

In principe kan dus iedereen een TEDx-event opzetten. In september vorig jaar vond er al een TEDx plaats in Amsterdam, nu is het dus de beurt aan Rotterdam.

Eén van de aardige dingen is dat het evenement gratis is, maar niet iedereen kan er bij zijn. Er vindt een selectie plaats op basis van je eigen bijdrage:

Ik heb vorig jaar TEDxAmsterdam live gevolgd via de stream, deze keer heb ik de eer om in de zaal aanwezig te zijn. Ik ben heel benieuwd hoe dit zal zijn. Het evenement is natuurlijk ook weer online te volgen.
